Mercer University is leveraging Macon's music heritage to foster the careers of future artists and music industry professionals. Mercer Music at Capricorn serves as a living classroom for the music production and music business programs of Mercer University's Townsend School of Music.

Though it began as a small independent label, Capricorn Records and its namesake studio grew to influence the tastes of a nation throughout the 1970s as it brought Southern soul and rock 'n' roll to the masses. With the revival of Capricorn Sound Studios in 2019, the spirit roared back to life. Capricorn's Greatest Hits celebrates the classic tracks and deep cuts that keep Macon, Georgia on the musical map–then and now.
