Capricorn still sounds like it does for a reason.

Studio A's analog-era construction wasn't preserved for nostalgia — it produces a warmth and depth that modern builds spend serious money trying to approximate and rarely do. It's the same room where timeless tracks by the Allman Brothers Band, Marshall Tucker Band and Wet Willie were laid down, and where Marcus King, Brent Cobb and Eddie 9V headed to record recent albums. Whatever it is that Capricorn unlocks in artists–it's something you step into and something that's still very much alive inside these walls.

Studio A

Capricorn's Historic Studio A looks and feels almost exactly as it did when artists like the Allman Brothers Band, Marshall Tucker Band and Charlie Daniels Band produced iconic albums there in the 70s.

Capricorn's signature sound originated from the soul of an API console, and when Studio A was restored for reopening in 2019, an elite, custom-built API 40-Channel 2448 console, fitted with the same preamps and EQ as Capricorn's original console, was installed as the centerpiece of the studio. The main tracking room still features the original maroon burlap-covered walls and cedar shingles that helped shape the studio's signature warm, tight sound. The vibe of the room that inspired the "live-only" ethos of so many of those classic sessions continues to energize and influence artists recording at Capricorn today.

Rob Evans

"Pioneering acoustician Tom Hidley designed Capricorn’s historic Studio A in 1972 with his 'from design to downbeat' approach. He integrated so many features in the non-reverberating space, like the sound diffusing walls and echo chambers, that are all part of the unique Capricorn sound. It's built to shine when musicians record together as bands, reacting to one another organically to achieve 'feel' and not necessarily 'perfection.' It’s that sound that artists come here are looking for....that and the chance to make music in the same room that their musical heroes did."

Studio B

Complementing historic Studio A is the 1400 square-foot Phil Walden Memorial Studio (Studio B), a multi-purpose space that can be used for accommodating choirs, orchestra or larger ensembles. Equipped with a movable stage, concert-grade sound and lights, and a large-screen projection system, the room can be rented for live performances that can be recorded. Clients looking for additional space can rent Studio A, Studio B and the adjacent bar/lounge together.

Brent Cobb performs on stage in Studio B.

Capricorn Sound Studios offers a small and affordable production suite with its own isolation booth which is perfect for mixing, editing, podcast production, audio book narration and songwriting collaboration. The suite features an AVID C-24 console and Pro Tools C24, and like Studio A, a pair of Focal Solo Be 6.5 studio nearfield speakers, a pair of industry-standard Yamaha HS8 speakers with sub speaker and a 5.1 Surround Sound Genelec 8020 system for 5.1 mixing.
